FAQ

Your most common questions answered

How are your offshore dedicated teams different from outsourcing or freelancers?

When you work with The Scalers, you’re not outsourcing a project or hiring freelancers. You’re building your own full-time engineering team in Bangalore: people who work only for you, using your tools, methods, and processes.

We handle recruitment, HR, payroll, and workspace; you keep control of priorities, code quality, and delivery. It’s a team built with the long-term perspective in mind, not a vendor arrangement.

What’s the minimum team size to start?

We recommend beginning with a 5–7-person team for balance and productivity.

If you want to start smaller, we can launch with two engineers and scale to five or more within 12 months. Many partners start small and expand once their core team is settled.

Can we use our own assessments and join interviews?

Absolutely. You can use your existing technical tests and interview steps, or we can help create separate ones.

Either way, our talent team shortlists and screens candidates first, and you join for the final interview stage, with detailed feedback from earlier rounds. That way, you stay in control without spending time on early-stage filtering.

Can we move our existing contractors under your payroll?

Yes. If you already work with trusted engineers or contractors in India, we can transfer them to our payroll and include them in your dedicated team. Because we skip the hiring process, we apply a preferential rate for those team members.

What time-zone overlap can we expect?

India is GMT + 5:30, and does not observe daylight saving time.

Our engineers typically work 10 a.m.–7 p.m. IST, giving a comfortable 3–6-hour overlap with Europe and partial overlap with the US or Australia.
Many see the time difference as an advantage; work continues while your local team is offline.

How do you handle training and upskilling?

Every engineer joins with proven experience in their tech stack.
Our Learning & Development team offers soft-skills sessions at no extra cost.

If you need specific technical training, we can arrange certified trainers or workshops and pass the actual cost directly to you – no markup.

What’s your attrition rate?

Our annual attrition rate is around 11% to 15%, compared with the Indian IT industry average of 30–35%.

We maintain this through competitive salaries, career growth, ongoing engagement, and a strong on-site support team led by our Chief Happiness Officer, who focuses entirely on employee satisfaction and retention.

What office, equipment, and connectivity do engineers get?

Each partner has a private branded office with card access, meeting rooms, and shared areas. These offices are equipped with a 1 GBPS internet connection (and a commercial fallback) plus a private generator to ensure work isn’t disrupted.

Engineers are equipped with top-of-the-line hardware (laptops, headsets and other equipment) that fulfils their needs.

How should we compare costs with hiring at home?

Look at the total cost, not just the salary.

Our model usually saves 30–40% compared with in-house hiring, once you include taxes, workspace, and admin.

Our monthly pricing is all-inclusive per engineer – covering recruitment, equipment, HR, and facilities – so you don’t have to worry about hidden fees.

Do you offer a trial period?

Every partnership starts with a three-month trial period during which you can exit at any time with two weeks’ notice. It isn’t a free proof-of-concept, as you’ll sign our standard agreement, but it gives you flexibility and peace of mind, allowing you to walk away early if things don’t work out.

Do we need to incorporate a company in India?

No. You don’t need to set up an entity or deal with local regulations. The Scalers employs your team through our registered Indian entity, taking care of all legal, tax, and compliance requirements. You focus on managing your engineers, and we handle the rest.

How long does it take to build a team?

On average, it takes 45–60 days from project kick-off to onboarding your first engineers.

  • Week 1: We coordinate with you and prepare hiring materials – interview questions, job posts, and landing pages.
  • Weeks 2-4: Recruitment, interviews, and testing.
  • Weeks 5-8: Candidates join.

We’ve filled simple roles in as little as 20 days, while complex ones (like data scientists) may take a bit longer.

Can you hire across our tech stack and non-tech roles?

Yes. We recruit across virtually all technologies – from Java, .NET, JavaScript, React, and Python to Salesforce, SAP, and data engineers.

We can also build non-engineering teams such as product managers, designers, QA, analysts, and support staff, or even shared-service roles like finance or HR, when your needs grow.

How do we manage and communicate with the offshore team?

Exactly the same way you manage your in-house team. You decide the sprint cadence, stand-ups, and tools- Slack, Jira, Teams, GitHub, or whatever you already use.

Your Partner Success Manager in Bangalore handles day-to-day operations behind the scenes, so nothing interferes with your collaboration with the team.

Do we need to travel to India? When should we come?

Travel isn’t required, but face-to-face time helps build trust.
We suggest two visits per year, either you visit the team in Bangalore, or key engineers visit your HQ.

Most partners plan their first visit within six months of launch to strengthen relationships early.

What if performance isn’t meeting expectations?

If a team member isn’t meeting standards, our People & Culture team runs a 30-day Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) with clear goals.

If progress falls short, we end the contract and recruit a replacement. In serious cases, we can terminate immediately. We usually begin replacement hiring as soon as the PIP starts to keep delivery on track.

How do you handle GDPR and data security?

We’re GDPR-compliant and certified under ISO 27001 (Information Security) and ISO 9001 (Quality Management).

Controls include background checks, NDAs, 24/7 guarded offices, CCTV, access control, encrypted networks, and regular training.

Your Partner Success Manager can match your exact security setup – VPNs, disabled USB ports, restricted access, or dedicated hardware – so your offshore team follows the same standards as your HQ.

Can you support night shifts or 24/7 coverage?

Yes. We can set up night shifts or round-the-clock operations when needed.

Night work adds about 30% to cover allowances, meals, and transport.

It’s common for support or data roles, less so for software development, but we’ll adapt schedules to match your time zone if essential.

How does billing and commitment work?

Invoices are sent on the 5th of each month.

You only start paying once your first engineer begins.

There’s no long-term lock-in. You can pause or exit with notice during the initial period, making the partnership low-risk from day one.

Can we transfer the team to our own payroll later?

Yes. We support two transfer options:

  • Dry Transfer: You pay the transfer fee stated in the MSA, and we move all engineers to your payroll.
  • Build-Operate-Transfer: A planned three-year transition that waives the fee entirely.

Both approaches give you a clear path to full ownership whenever you’re ready.
